At least 54 buses will be deployed near the stations of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 along Taft Avenue to accommodate as many passengers who will be affected by the train shut down of operation starting Wednesday, March 27.

But the passenger buses will not offer free rides as they will serve as augmentation to the regular daily buses along the routes, according to Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista.

Bautista said the buses will be deployed from EDSA-TAFT Station in Pasay City to Monumento in Caloocan and will transport passengers to their respective destinations.

Around 50 of the buses will be from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) while at least four more are from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

He said the buses will be available from 4 a.m. onwards on Wednesday, March 27, until Sunday, March 31.

“These passenger buses will be deployed to offset the shutdown of operations of LRT Line 1 that will be doing preparatory works for the opening of the five additional stations from Redemptorist to Dr. Santos Stations of the LRT Line 1 within this year,” said Bautista.

The LRT-1, he said, will also undertake the annual Holy Week maintenance works.

The buses will have pickup and drop off points along Taft Avenue, specifically Edsa-taft, Gil Puyat, Doroteo Jose, Carriedo, and Monumento, acording to Bautista.

“These measures are to ensure that commuters will continue to have access to public transportation as part of the Oplan Biyaheng Ayos of the government,” said Bautista.
