Metro Manila road reblocking, repairs set

- By AARON RECUENCO

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has given a go-signal for the road reblocking and repairs in at least 14 areas in Metro Manila in a bid to take advantage of another long weekend.

But MMDA Chairman Don Artes said only the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be allowed to undertake road repairs after two private contractors of a telecom company failed to comply with the agreement to finish their works on time during the long Holy Week break.

“Our decision to allow only the DPWH to undertake road reblocking and repairs was because of what happened when the two private contractors failed to finish their job on time,” said Artes in a press briefing.

“We will only allow DPWH to conduct 24-hour road repairs which they commit to finish on time and implement properly in the same manner as they implemented it during last Holy Week’s road repairs,” he added.

Artes said the DPWH road works will start on Friday, April 5, until either April 10 or 11, depending if April 10 will be declared as holiday due to Ramadan.
