LTO receives 600K more plastic cards for driver’s license printing

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) received on Monday, April 15, around 600,000 more plastic cards, with the delivery happening on the first day of the weeklong celebration of the agency's 112th Founding Anniversary.

LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the delivery was also timely since the agency has already started the processing and distribution of plastic-printed driver's license after the March 25-arrival of one million pieces of plastic cards.

The March 25-delivery of one million plastic cards was a result of a Court of Appeals (CA) decision, lifting the injunction order for the delivery of the remaining 3.2 million plastic cards last month.

The 3.2 million plastic cards are part of the 5.2 million plastic cards bought by the Department of Transportation early last year, but the complete delivery was deferred after a losing bidder sought court intervention.

“The delivery will continue until all the remaining 3.2 million is completed. We expect the completion of the delivery within 45 days after the first delivery on March 25,” said Mendoza, referring to the one million pieces of plastic cards delivered after the lifting of the injunction order.

A day after the delivery of the one million pieces of plastic cards on March 25, the LTO immediately issued a schedule of renewal of expired driver’s license in order for motorists to finally get their plastic-printed driver’s licenses.

Based on the LTO memo, the following schedule for renewal has been approved:

For driver’s licenses with expiration dates from April 1 to August 31, 2023 and April 1 to April 30, 2024, they are scheduled to renew their licenses from April 15 to April 30, 2024;

For driver’s licenses with expiration dates from September 1 to December 31, 2023 and May 1 to May 31, 2024, they are scheduled to renew their licenses from May 1 to May 31, 2024;

For driver’s licenses with expiration dates from January 1 to March 31 2024 and June 1 to June 30, 2024, they are scheduled to renew their licenses from June 1 to June 30, 2024.

“With today’s delivery of 600,000, this will ensure the continuity of the schedule of renewal which we issued last month,” said Mendoza.

The renewal schedule was aimed at ensuring orderly processing and distribution of plastic-printed plastic cards in all LTO offices across the country.

Mendoza then urged motorists to strictly follow the schedule.
