It’s the apocalypse, who cares about rules? Chaos reigns above all!

What’s up wastelanders? Only a few days have passed since the release of Amazon Prime’s Fallout series, and it’s already considered one of the year’s best series. As its popularity continues to soar, many have started to talk about what faction they’d join if they were ever to find themselves in a similar setting. Using the factions of Fallout 4 as a reference, here’s a handy guide to navigating the wasteland and what your choice of group says about you.

Brotherhood of Steel

Order and respect are vital to survival. By joining the Brotherhood of Steel, you submit yourself to a noble cause. To protect the wasteland by eliminating super mutants and raiders who prey on the unprepared. This is not the place to live out your action-packed guns-ablaze hero fantasy. Here, you must prove your worth and contribute to the group. Cooperation is the key to survival, you must learn to look after your brethren. Your end goal is to bring peace and order to the wasteland by gathering pre-war technology to study it and ensure it cannot be used for destruction.

Minutemen

As a member of the Minutemen, volunteerism shines as the group’s key aspect. Becoming part of the Minutemen means you see the importance of lending a helping hand to those in need. Similar to those from the Brotherhood of Steel, the Minutemen have a high sense of camaraderie. What sets them apart is Minutemen often have a more empathetic approach, whereas the Brotherhood is steadfast in its ways. Joining the Minutemen means you’re a reliable friend who can be called on at a moment’s notice. You’re more likely to find joy in helping those around you rather than splurging on yourself.

The Railroad

Do you prefer to operate in the shadows? The Railroad prides itself in assisting those in need through covert means by using its underground base. If you’re not the type to join big groups or prefer keeping to yourself, this faction is the place to be. Although not necessarily social recluses, the Railroad faction is perfect for those who prefer to get by unnoticed and still contribute whenever they can. Certainly, the way to go for those who lead a mysterious lifestyle.

The Institute

Facts and science are the way to go. Never mind what anyone else thinks, they’re wrong! By joining the Institute, you are dedicated to bettering humanity by any means necessary. Here, intellect remains key to getting along with those around you. Are you the type who prefers meaningful conversations and productive activities over lounging around? In the Institution, mind over matter is the way to go.

Raiders

It’s the apocalypse, who cares about rules! Chaos reigns above all! Adrenaline runs as the fuel for this bloodthirsty faction. Raiders lead a crazy lifestyle, always on the move and living life on the edge. Why bother bringing back the past society? This new life is your Mad Max-esque dream come true. Perfect for daredevils and thrillseekers who find meaning in seeking unknown pleasures.
