Solon sees members of FPRRD, VP Sara parties jumping ship

- By ELLSON QUISMORIO

A congressman is predicting members of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) and Vice President Sara Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) to bolt the two parties amid the apparent campaign to malign President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

According to House Deputy Majority Leader Isabela Rep. Faustino “Inno” Dy V, PDP and Hugpong members who are not comfortable with what is going on in their parties and who want to continue supporting the Marcos administration might opt to jump ship to other political groups.

“Marahil ‘yung mga miyembro ng PDP or ng Hugpong na hindi sumasang-ayon sa mga nangyayari na gustong makitungo pa rin sa banner ng ating mahal na Pangulo na unity progress for our country, then makikita natin na marahil na sila po ay kumatok sa ibang mga partido, at lumipat ng ibang partido (Perhaps the members of PDP or Hugpong who do not agree with what is happening and instead prefer to join our beloved President’s unity for progress banner, we seen them knocking on the doors of other parties, and joining these parties),” Dy said in a press conference on Thursday, May 9.

The elder Duterte is the chairman of erstwhile ruling party PDP. HNP, on the other hand, was a regional party in the far south founded by the Vice President.

Dy made his prediction on the heels of the formalization of the alliance between Marcos’s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) and House Speaker Martin Romualdez’s Lakas-christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-cmd).

Dubbed the Alyansa ng Bagong Pilipinas, the alliance is now busy consolidating its forces ahead of the May 2025 mid-term elections.

Not involved

Marcos is not under the impression that police officers are part of the destabilization plots against him and his administration, saying he has not received any reports to suggest that they are turning their backs on him.

Marcos said this after former Sen. Antonio F. Trillanes IV claimed that there was a brewing destabilization against the present administration from the ranks of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

In an interview, the President does not think that police officers were participating in efforts to destabilize his government.

“Wala kaming report na in the ranks. Iyong mga retired baka mayroon, mayroong mga gumagalaw, sumasama sa mga destab na ginagawa (There’s no report among the ranks. Maybe the retired ones, they are taking part in the destabilization plot),” he said.

“Pero sa ating mga kapulisan, at siyempre lalo na sa officer corps, wala naman tayong nakikitang ganun na namumulitika ang mga police (But from our police, especially in our officer corps, we don’t see them engaging in politics),” he added.

According to Marcos, there was no need for a loyalty check among members of the PNP, saying such a test does not even prove anything.

“Hindi ko alam kung ano ‘yung loyalty check (sa) katotohanan (I don’t know what loyalty check is, to be honest),” he said.

“Anong sasabihin mo doon sa tao? Sasabihin, ‘loyal ka ba sa akin?’ Siyempre, oo ang sagot noon ‘di ba kahit na hindi siya loyal sa ‘yo (You’ll ask a person if they’re loyal to you? Of course, they’ll say ‘yes’ even if they’re not),” he added. (with a report from Argyll Geducos)
