Sara won’t ask for advice from Rody on VP role

VICE President-elect Sara Duterte will not be asking for advice from her father, outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte, on how to run her place in government, saying they usually do not discuss political matters in the family.

“We don’t discuss work and politics. If we see each other, we usually talk about rumors among family members and other gossips. Our relationship is not professional or business type but very normal,” she said at a press conference in Davao City on Monday when asked if she would solicit advice from the outgoing Chief Executive.

Meanwhile, patriotism is at the “top of mind” of Duterte-Carpio, who has also been appointed Education Secretary by President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

According to Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda in an ANC interview, Duterte-Carpio told him she would like to see a “country with learners that are disciplined, patriotic, and skilled.”

As outgoing Davao City Mayor, “Inday Sara” also vowed to continue pushing for the High Priority Bus System project in the city under the Marcos administration.

Asked what her advice would be to her brother, incoming Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, she said the latter should always prioritize the welfare of the residents.

“As city mayor, he should always think about the general welfare clause of the Local Government Code and that there will always be many issues and challenges wherein his constituents will not always be happy. But if he follows the general welfare clause, he’ll always be on the right track,” she said.

Duterte-Carpio was inaugurated as the country’s 15th Vice President on Sunday in her hometown’s San Pedro Square . Photos showed that she hugged President Duterte after taking her oath.

The VP-elect said she thanked her father, who wished her good luck, as the inauguration fell on Father’s Day and coincided with the birth anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
