Gov’t offers 20,000 jobs in career fair
THE government will offer more than 20,000 positions during the five-day virtual career fair on Sept. 19 to 23 to help university graduates find jobs after a long lockdown period.
Civil Service Commissioner Aileen Lourdes Lizada said the government needed to fill up over 20,000 positions by hiring new university and K-12 graduates. The Government Online Career Fair is part of a series of festivities in commemoration of the agency’s 122nd founding anniversary.
“The CSC leads the anniversary celebration to commemorate the birth of the Philippine civil service as an important event in Philippine history. This signals not only our country’s independence but the start of professionalization of the civil service based on merit and fitness. Until today, we strongly uphold these principles in our core HR practices, particularly in recruitment,” Lizada said.
This is the 3rd time that the CSC teamed up with JobStreet when many public and private hirers pivoted to digital solutions to fill up job vacancies at the height of the pandemic in 2020. Offering jobs online is a more helpful and easier for applicants and candidates.
“For two years since the pandemic, JobStreet and the Civil Service Commission have successfully helped Filipinos find government jobs through online channels. With this year’s online career fair, we hope we’ll be able to empower more candidates with future-ready opportunities,” said JobStreet Philippines country manager Philip Gioca.
Aside from convenient job applications, the event will also allow candidates to learn more from the webinars conducted by career experts throughout the duration of the job fair. Guest speakers will tackle topics related to working for a digital job, building a website, career in government, government job flexibility, among others,
This year’s thematic focus is on resilience, which is part of building smart organizations and future-ready civil service.
CSC said the online job fair would also offer positions not requiring civil service eligibility and those who have graduated with Latin honors from cum laude to summa cum laude and board passers need not take the civil service examination to qualify for desired positions.
Vacancies will be also offered to salary grade 1 employees like messengers, utility workers, reproduction machine operations, daycare workers, among others. These are positions that do not require academic and civil service eligibility.
JobStreet head of marketing Kim Viray said the focus of the GOCF would be on the so-called “lockdown generation” or graduates who were not able to land jobs during pandemic due mobility restrictions and financial constraints.
“It is mainly because among job seeker segments, they are really the ones affected by the pandemic, spending two years in quarantine. Recovery in youth employment is still lagging, that’s why we are here to help the lockdown generation create their own career path,” he said.
