Newly-minted lawmaker supports opening of trending cake shop
ACTOR-TURNED-CONGRESSMAN Arjo Atayde was on hand for the ribboncutting ceremony of the latest Remilly’s Yema Cake shop on Banawe Street, Quezon City last November 27. At the opening of Remilly and Richard Co’s new pastry shop Atayde said that it coincided with his intention to go back to his district and work for its constituents, “siyempre kasama sa trabaho ang pakikisama sa mga tao and kasama ang pagbaba sa distrito.” Atayde also mentioned that his work at Congress was complete for the time being and that “budget deliberations are done,” adding that his work as a first-time representative of Quezon City’s 1st district is “a big responsibility.” “Everything’s hard. I’m taking it day by day,” he stated, and was humble to admit that he is a “work in progress.” “Every day I’m learning more and I’m actually applying it in the 19th Congress.” Congressman Atayde agrees that it’s always good to see businesses like Remilly’s Yema Cake shop prosper and that SMEs (small-medium enterprises) success is a good indicator that a city district’s economy and its citizen’s entrepreneurial spirit are thriving. “Rem and Richard (Co) are kind people, I might just have met them but they’re very transparent,” commented Atayde about the young enterprising couple behind the shop. “For all their small businesses and enterprises which are the SMEs, were here to help each and every way we can. May mga bills that are under study (to help SMEs further), so I am of supporting all SMEs, even if it’s not my committee,” said Atayde. Meanwhile, Remilly Maniti Co, the namesake of the famous Yema Cake, shared the beginnings of her business. “Actually, unforeseen business namin itong pag bake ng yema cake. It started as a hobby, then I posted it on social media, then it trended. We started with a small tiange sa isang fiesta sa Malabon, then it was also successful, so dun kami na-inspire ng husband ko. I said, ok let’s start with four branches.” “This 18th branch is special because it coincides with our rebranding. Before it’s just yema cake, but we did our survey for our market potential, and we found out people give our cakes as a gift. We found out that may market din pala kami with the upper market such as professionals that we know now that they buy our product to give as a gift.” Remilly’s Yema Cake shop also has branches in Visayas Avenue, Kamias, Mayon, Roosevelt, Holy Spirit Drive, Victory Mall Caloocan, Malabon Bayan, Lapu lapu Ave. in Malabon, SM Marilao, Malabon Citisquare, SM Pasig, Ever Commonwealth, Ever Covered Walk, Binangonan Rizal, Malinta Intersection, Plaza Leon Manila, and E.
