Ina Raymundo shares steamy kiss with Will Ashley
ACTRESS Ina Raymundo, 48, and Sparkle artist Will Ashley, 21, admit to feeling nervous filming kissing scenes for X and Y, a romantic May-December drama directed by Adolf Alix, Jr. But both actors assure viewers the on-screen passion translates well.
and tells the story of Ysha, a 46-year-old woman played by Raymundo, who embarks on a lifechanging journey of self-discovery. Her travels lead her to Xander (Ashley), a young man struggling to make ends meet for his family. Ysha makes an unusual proposition: she’ll pay Xander to accompany her on her trip. An unexpected connection sparks between them. “Ysha’s a complex character,” Raymundo explained during a press conference on April 13 that her character is a “strong-willed workaholic who hasn’t embraced motherhood. She’s made mistakes, but what we share is a desire for peace and redemption. She wants to make amends for her past and become a better person.”
The press conference turned to the kissing scenes, which made reporters curious. While nerves were high, Raymundo commended Ashley’s professionalism.
“We were all nervous, to be honest,” Raymundo said with a smile. “For Will, it was his first time, and it had been a while for me too. But I have to say, he was a perfect gentleman. His kiss was confident, not fumbled – maybe his body was a bit tense, but his lips certainly weren’t.”
When a reporter jokingly asked if Ashley enjoyed the experience, Raymundo quipped, “Maybe he was referring to the food scene. We do have a scene where he dives into a meal – that might be what he liked best.”
Jokes aside, Raymundo clarified, “To be clear, the kiss was assertive and not overly wet. I can’t stand those sloppy, fishy kisses – so unhygienic.”
While the on-screen romance is a major draw, Raymundo emphasized the importance of focus during filming.
“Honestly, when you’re doing a kissing scene, you’re completely focused on the work,” she explained. “But Will did a fantastic job. His nerves weren’t a factor, which is great because multiple takes can be a real hassle.
Director Adolf Alix Jr. pinpointed what sets X and Y apart from other May-December romances.
“The entire story unfolds during a road trip. This unique setting allows for intimate conversations and a deeper exploration of the characters’ lives,” the director said.
Screenwriter Gina Marissa Tagasa adds another layer to the film’s intrigue. “There are many MayDecember stories out there,” she said, “But X and Y delves into the journey from a strong, independent woman’s perspective. Women often chase empowerment, but are they truly happy once they achieve it? This film explores that question.”
Tagasa concluded with a thought-provoking message: “The movie reminds us that challenges can be a powerful catalyst for change. It’s during these difficult times that we decide whether to rise above our circumstances or remain stuck.” X and Y also stars Elizabeth Oropesa, Bembol Roco, and Divine Tetay. The film is now playing in Philippine cinemas nationwide.
