Pasig signs low-cost housing pact

- By Rio N. Araja

DEPARTMENT of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto have signed a memorandum of understanding to seal a partnership under the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program.

“The highest percentage of informal settlers are found here in Metro Manila so pushing for the implementation of incity projects is our priority. It would really

have a huge positive impact on the lives of most of our countrymen wanting to have their own homes through the 4PH program,” Acuzar said.

The partnership between the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), and the city government would pave the way for in-city housing projects for informal settler families and low-income earners in Pasig City.

“My sincere thanks to Mayor Vico for the opportunity to serve the people of Pasig and learn from your best practices,” Acuzar said, adding that “.. hope is truly flowing in your city-- you will also be part of our National Housing... look forward to it that our government has the full support and we will be with all Pasigueños until we realize your dream of having your own home that is safe, decent and affordable.”

Sotto discussed the local government unit’s initial plans for two housing projects intended for the informal settlers.

“Initially, we have identified two projects... where we have informal settler communities who also want to have a housing program,” he stressed.

He said he fully supports the flagship program of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to address the country’s housing backlog.
