DIFFERENTL­Y ABLED STUDENTS HONE ARTISTIC, CREATIVE SKILLS IN WORKSHOP

FILIPINO Deaf students were immersed in various artmaking techniques to strengthen their imaginativ­e skills and foster artistic empowermen­t.

The event was o ered to Senior High School students to pursue their passion for creativity through interactiv­e projects. It provided them the opportunit­y to rst-hand experience college classes at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB).

Dubbed as “Editions,” the initiative was a series of talks and workshops conducted by Benilde’s School of Arts, Culture, and Performanc­e.

During the sessions, the Grade 9 learners from the Benilde Deaf School (BDS) explored the basics of monotype printmakin­g. It is a unique method that applies ink and design in a at medium such as plastic.

Hershey Malinis and a 2021 Cultural Center of the Philippine­s (CCP) 13 Artists Awardee and educator Mars Bugaoan guided the participan­ts to the proper use of printmakin­g tools such as plexiglass, o set printing ink, brayer, and etching press.

The industry experts continued to lead the attendees in arranging their designs. They accompanie­d the pupils in transferri­ng the imprints from their matrices.

The crowd produced a wide range of textures and e ects in the nal prints. This gave them a sense of experiment­ation and freedom to explore di erent inventive possibilit­ies.

Several volunteers from the program and Senior High School Arts and Design Track provided assistance. Editions likewise held digital portfolio and sculpture seminars with Benilde Senior High School and De La Salle University (DLSU) Integrated School Arts and Design talents.
