P23 million earmarked for Kalinga reforestation
TABUK CITY, Kalinga: A total of P22.7 million was approved by the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) for reforestation projects in 20 barangays of the province covered by the Second Cordillera Highland Agricultural Resources and Management Project (CHARMP2).
Norma Frances Damian, CHARMP2 Provincial Action Officer for Kalinga said 15% or P1.6 million has already been released as mobilization fund for the establishment of nurseries in eight barangays that complied with the requirements. Barangays Tulgao East, Bagtayan and Mabilong received the second billing of their reforestation project, she said.
She said 11 people’s organization (POS) were provided comprehensive site development training and planning workshop under the community watershed, forest management and agro-forestry component of the project. These 11 barangays also have their work and financial plan, Damian said.
The total targeted area for reforestation is 979 hectares. For Balbalan, 200 hectares will be reforested; Lubuagan – 136; Pasil – 233; Tanudan – 200; and Tinglayan – 221 hectares.
“All reforestation projects will be implemented by accredited POS, however, some are yet to be obligated pending the completion of requirements,” said Damian who is also the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator.
