The Philippine Volcanoes were invited to compete in the prestigiou­s Hong Kong 7s slated on March 23 to 25 at the 40-seater Hong Kong Stadium. The Philippine squad will be up against strong teams including New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and England.

One single loss by the Lady Falcons will prolong into a best-of-three playoff for the title between the top two teams after the two-round eliminatio­ns. Capping the day’s three-game schedule pits University of the East against La Salle at 1 pm.

FILIPINO RUNNERS CLAIM TOP SPOTS AT SUBIC INTERNATIO­NAL MARATHON

FILIPINO runners ruled the latest Subic Internatio­nal Marathon on January 21 and January 22. Sixteen Filipino runners claim the top prizes of the 10kilomete­r, 21K and 42K events. The top finishers in the 42K race are Ryan Mendoza, finishing in 3:07:04 and Jul Laiza Camposano finishing in 3:58:10, each receiving P20,000.00 cash prize. The top finishers of the 21K event are Jofill Sabado finishing in 1:20:44 and Monica Torres finishing in 1:32:52, both went home with P10,000.00 cash prize. ASIAN TOUR CHIEF WELCOMES PGA BOOST

SINGAPORE: Asian Tour chief Kyi Hla Han has welcomed moves from the US PGA Tour to step up its presence in the region, as this year’s busy golf season gets under way.the boss of Asia’s main golf circuit, which returns this week in Yangon, said it would be “positive for all parties” if the PGA turns the limitedfie­ld CIMB Asia Pacific Classic in Kuala Lumpur into a ranking event.the PGA has lagged behind the European Tour, which last year co-sanctioned eight Asian events,in its forays into the region,but is now considerin­g an“asian swing” with CIMB and Shanghai’s HSBC Champions gaining full PGA status.
