ASSASSIN KILLS EX-ILOCOS SUR MAYOR

AN unknown assailant shot dead Wednesday an extant mayor of Sto. Domingo town in Ilocos Sur. Local authoritie­s identified the fatality as businessma­n Anthony “Tonyboy” Que, who was shot at about 8 a.m. in Poblacion Norte, San Ildefonso, Ilocos Sur. In his report sent to Camp Crame, S/insp. Jose Abaya of San Ildefonso-pnp said the victim was talking with a certain Arlene Tubon at the back of his apartment when the assailant approached them and fired at the former mayor several times, killing him instantly. The suspect immediatel­y fled on an Enduro motorcycle while the victim was rushed to the nearest hospital, but was declared dead on arrival because of bullet wounds in his head, back and neck. Recovered at the crime scene were .45 and 9mm slugs. IBA, Zambales: Three major projects were inaugurate­d this week part of the provincial developmen­t program. Governor Jun Ebdane inaugurate­d the rehabilita­ted segment of the Carael National Highway in Botolan town that was heavily damaged during the past rainy season. The highway connects the northern and southern parts of the province. A total of P50 million was spent for the rehabilita­tion of the said highway, Ebdane said. Ebdane also inaugurate­d P50 million worth of medical equipments at the Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Hospital as part of the provincial government to provide cheap medical service. Ebdane also formally opened the P100-million Zambales Sports Complex.

MINERS NABBED FOR PAWNSHOP HEIST

IMUS, Cavite: Police arrested Miller Silag, 28, of San Vicente, Baguio City, and Dave Tiwan, 29, of Upper Quezon Hill, Baguio City and Jake Tipo, 21, of Km. 3 La Trinidad, Benguet who rented a house adjacent to LAJ Jaro Pawnshop here and tunneled their way into the establishm­ent. At 11 p. m. on Tuesday, the pawnshop security guard saw at establishm­ent’s CCTV a hole appearing beside the vault, one of the suspects emerging from the hole and unplugging the CCTV. The guard immediatel­y called for police help that led to the arrest of the suspects.

OUTNUMBERE­D ROOKIE POLICEMEN GUNNED DOWN

TWO rookie cops of the Philippine National Police—po1 Rey Romano and PO1 Radin Hasi, both detailed at Community Police Assistance Center (COMPAC) of Tungawa Municipal Police Station— were killed in an ambush in Zamboanga Sibugay, allegedly perpetrate­d by “Agaw-armas Gang” members on Tuesday night. The ambush transpired at around 10 p.m. in Poblacion, Tungawa town. Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office Director, P/sr.supt. Ruben Cariaga, said four unidentifi­ed assailants strafed the rookie cops who were then having coffee at a bus station. The suspects carted away the victim’s M-16 rifle service firearms and fled. Two of the suspects were initially identified as Monib and Jomar Aukausa, but police are still verifying the report.
