- ERNIE B. ESCONDE FROILAN E. MAGTOTO

THE Department of Agrarian Reform ( DAR) recently installed 76 agrarian reform beneficiaries ( ARBS) in a 132.1- hectare landholding in the province of Cebu. Cebu Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer ( PARO) Isagani Yee said farm workers were installed as the rightful owners after years of resistance from the landowners. Yee said the installation was done in three separate events. The first one took place at the 100.8- hectare property of Paz Luna Agricultural Corporation intinubdan, Daanbantayan, with 43 farmerbeneficiaries installed. The second installation was held in the 16.6- hectare of Mendy Agricultural Development property in Mabuli, Tabogon, with 25 farmer- beneficiaries. The last one occurred in the 14.7- hectare cultivation area foreclosed by ASPAC rural bank in Manlagtang of the same town where eight farmer- beneficiaries were installed. Yee said the properties were acquired through compulsory acquisitions, one of the modes of acquiring farmlands, under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program ( CARP). “It is high time that these farmers gain possession of the lands they can call their own,” Yee said.
