SEVEN OUTSTANDING ILONGGOS FETED
ILOILO CITY: Seven outstanding Ilonggos will receive the Golden Salakot Award and be bestowed with lifetime membership in the Hubon ni Marikudo ( Order of Marikudo), an exclusive league of entities or individuals who supported Iloilo City to attain its vision as a premier city in southern Philippines. Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog of Iloilo City will lead the award rites on Saturday, August 25, 2012 as a highlight in the celebration of the city’s Charter Day and 75th Diamond Jubilee anniversary. The award is the highest honor given by the city government for individuals or institutions for outstanding achievements and philanthropic involvement in the city. The Ilonggo awardees are singercomposer Jose Mari Chan, Sen. Franklin Drilon, media and business mogul Rogelio Florete Sr., businessman Edgar Sia of Mang Inasal fame, hotelier Felicito Tiu, contractorphilanthropist Jose “Pepe” Layson and incumbent city councilor Perla Zulueta. MORMONS GIVE RELIEF GOODS TO 1,900 FAMILIES
DINALUPIHAN, Bataan: The charity group of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints on Thursday distributed relief goods to 1,900 families in Dinalupihan, town in Bataan province most badly ravaged by floods two weeks ago. “We are thankful since this will be of help to us,” said old woman Violeta Datu where floods in her house were neck- deep last August 7. The floods subsided after five days. Other beneficiaries said that the relief goods consisting of rice, corned beef, sardines and noodles were of big help to them. ERNIE B. ESCONDE
