SEVEN OUT­STAND­ING ILONG­GOS FETED

ILOILO CITY: Seven out­stand­ing Ilong­gos will re­ceive the Golden Salakot Award and be be­stowed with life­time mem­ber­ship in the Hubon ni Marikudo ( Or­der of Marikudo), an ex­clu­sive league of en­ti­ties or in­di­vid­u­als who sup­ported Iloilo City to at­tain its vi­sion as a premier city in south­ern Philippines. Mayor Jed Patrick Ma­bilog of Iloilo City will lead the award rites on Satur­day, Au­gust 25, 2012 as a high­light in the cel­e­bra­tion of the city’s Char­ter Day and 75th Di­a­mond Ju­bilee an­niver­sary. The award is the high­est honor given by the city gov­ern­ment for in­di­vid­u­als or in­sti­tu­tions for out­stand­ing achieve­ments and phil­an­thropic in­volve­ment in the city. The Ilonggo awardees are singer­com­poser Jose Mari Chan, Sen. Franklin Drilon, me­dia and busi­ness mogul Rogelio Florete Sr., busi­ness­man Edgar Sia of Mang Inasal fame, hote­lier Felic­ito Tiu, con­trac­tor­phi­lan­thropist Jose “Pepe” Layson and in­cum­bent city coun­cilor Perla Zu­lueta. MOR­MONS GIVE RE­LIEF GOODS TO 1,900 FAM­I­LIES

DINALUPIHAN, Bataan: The char­ity group of the Church of Je­sus Christ of Lat­ter- Day Saints on Thurs­day dis­trib­uted re­lief goods to 1,900 fam­i­lies in Dinalupihan, town in Bataan prov­ince most badly rav­aged by floods two weeks ago. “We are thank­ful since this will be of help to us,” said old woman Vi­o­leta Datu where floods in her house were neck- deep last Au­gust 7. The floods sub­sided af­ter five days. Other ben­e­fi­cia­ries said that the re­lief goods con­sist­ing of rice, corned beef, sar­dines and noo­dles were of big help to them. ERNIE B. ESCONDE
