Rob attempt leaves 1 dead, 6 arrested in Iloilo village

ONE robbery suspect was killed and six others were collared following a gun battle with lawmen after the culprits tried to rob an oil company in a remote village in Iloilo province on Friday afternoon, a police official said on Saturday.

Western Visayas Police Director, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., quoting reports, identified the fatality as Sony ‘Boy’ Daung.

Cruz also identified the six arrested as Raymund Parcon, 37; Elmer Velasco, 39; Joebert dela Cruz, 34; Raymund Ngimir, 54; Edwin Dagohoy, 37 and Jomarie “Gine” Parcon, 34, all are from Iloilo.

The police official said that the eight men held up at about 4:45 pm on Friday the Kings Oil Company in Brgy. Jibaoan, Pavia town in Iloilo.

Cruz said that alert policemen from Pavia Municipal Police Station immediatel­y responded to the reported robbery incident and engage the suspects in a running gunfight.

Daung was wounded and was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital where he was rushed by lawmen, the police official said.

Cruz said that five of Daung’s companions were arrested after the encounter. Lawmen captured the sixth during follow-up operations.

Recovered from their possession­s are two .38 revolvers; a 9mm automatic pistol, a hand grenade, 10 cellphones, a hand radio, several IDs and cash about P24,400.
