MERALCO Bolts routed new team Globalport 101- 92, on Friday in the 38th Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum.

Mark Cardona, Solomon Mercado and rookie Kelly Nabong displayed their deadly form to secure Meralco’s sixth win in 11 matches and cut the team’s twogame losing skid.

“A very gratifying win after an emotional loss to Rain or Shine. I have to really asked help from my coaches; luckily I have a very solid coaching staff. It’s great we were able to win again and solidify our position at no. 4. I asked them to be practically active. It’s the character of our team that when someone is emotionally down someone has to pick him up,” said Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio.

With the victory, the Meralco B-Boys regained the solo No.4 position. Still on the lead is Talk ‘N Text (9-2) followed by Rain or Shine (83) and San Mig Coffee (7-3).

Batang Pier that only joined the league this year was the first team to bow out of contention. Though the squad still have three remaining matches in the elimination round, it only managed to post one win against 10 losses.

Cardona topscored for Meralco with 26 points, while Mercado finished with 24, Nabong 18, Buenafe 14, and Reynel Hugnatan 10.

Gary David led Globalport with 33 points, Rey Guevarra settled with 20; Vic Manuel scored 15 and Willie Miller seven.
