Martin Nievera reinvents himself in 3D

- WM BELEN

THREE decades in show business but Martin Nievera says that there’s more to learn in music and proof of that is his newest album under PolyEast Records called “Martin Nievera 3D,” an album featuring songs you never imagined he would sing.

3D stands for Tatlong Dekada, and can be deemed as the balladeers’ rebirth in the recording industry. Why? Martin traded the usual formula of most recording artists nowadays of doing remake or cover albums for a riskier one— new original compositions and new sounds for him.

As he proudly stated, this album for his 30th year in the industry represents the “first day of the rest of his career” because they are all new songs.

“Most people would have thought that I would have gone by remaking my songs for the last 30 years. We decided na hindi na uso yan. It’s time just to go on,” explained Martin.

He added that coming up with the songs in his album was tedious because there were a lot of composers who sent him their compositions.

“The process of elimination was very fruitful because ang daming nag- submit ng bago for me to choose the sound that I want from,” he quipped.

The notable songwriters and composers he ended collaborating with were Marvin Querido, Joey Benin, Jungee Marcelo, Ogie Alcasid, Arnie Mendaros and Kiko Salazar, who penned his carrier single “Ipadarama.”

He also wrote some songs in the album like “Are We Really Praying” with Marvin Querido. It’s an inspirational song but a rap segment.

“It’s my version of what Gary V. wouldn’t do. Because Gary would make it very inspirational and almost biblical and scriptural. Mine is more like everyday talk. Marvin and I thought about this during again all these calamities. We hear people say let’s all pray for the Philippines but are you really going to pray? That’s the theme,” he shared.

Another inspirational song is “Carry On” with Joey Benin. He was inspired to write this when he saw people on the roof of their houses during the typhoon Ondoy.

“Martin Nieverra 3D” also comes with a DVD that contains selected music videos of songs he has recorded in his 30 years. Also included in the CD are his “teleserye songs” like “Pangako,” from “Walang Hanggang,” “Times of Your Life” from “Lorenzo’s Time” and “After All” from “A Beautiful Affair.”

“Martin Nievera 3D” is also sold online at iTunes and through www. MyMusicStore. com. ph.
