PH ATHLETES WIN 10 MORE MEDALS IN VIENTIANE

THE Philippine contingent earned 10 more medals including four silvers in the 16th Asean University Games being held in Vientiane, Laos.
Former Palarong Pambansa standout Patrick Unso wound up second in the men’s 110-meter hurdles by submitting 14.49 seconds at the National Sports Complex main stadium. He surpassed the old Philippine record of 14.58 seconds he also registered in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in Palembang, Indonesia.
Malaysian Mohamad Rohaizad Jamil dominated the five-man field in 14.37 seconds, while Nguyen Ngoc Quang of Vietnam took the third spot with 14.53 seconds. Fellow tracksters Christopher Ulboc (men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase, 9:31.48), Michelle Palmares (women’s 100m hurdles, 15.10) and Elbren Neri (men’s 800m, 1:57.00), got bronze each in their respective events.
In swimming, University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 75 Most Valuable Player Johansen Benedict Aguilar placed second in the men’s 200m butterfly in two minutes and 12.61 seconds behind eventual champion Triady Fauzi Sidiq of Indonesia , who checked in at 2: 07.76. Aguilar added one bronze in the men’s 400m Individual Medley ( IM) with 4: 43.45.
Claire Adorna also claimed silver in the women’s 50m backstroke (31.17) and another bronze in the women’s 400m IM medley (5:16.42).

Leigh Anne Nuguid churned out a second- place
finish following a 1- 6 loss to Samachaya Homjitr of Thailand in the finals of the women’s flyweight class, while Julian Mickey Cordero had to settle for bronze medal in the men’s finweight as he succumbed to Ahmad Nabil Mohammad Faqih of Indonesia, 3-14, in the semifinals.
The Philippines remained at sixth with two golds, seven silvers and nine bronzes, while Malaysia stayed on top with 29-22-27 followed by Vietnam (25-17-12), defending champion Thailand (17-23-20), Laos (16-1420) and Indonesia (11-18-33).
