NBI men extorting money?

- ERWIN TULFO etulfo2011@yahoo.com

WHAT’S this I heard from the grapevine that some members of the National Bureau of Investigation ( NBI) are extorting money from nightclubs and gambling operators nationwide?

The story goes like this: Several members of the NBI headed by a certain Agent Danny Afad and one Norie Noriega would go around gambling dens and nightclub joints with lewd shows asking for money in exchange for protection.

Worse, the said agents are using the name of NBI Director Nonato Rojas in their extortion activities. These agents collect more than P4 million a month according to the same report.

A check with my source at the NBI confirmed the said story.

However, my mole at the bureau said that “Afad” is not an agent, rather it is a unit of the NBI. AFAD is an acronym for Anti-Fraud Action Division.

My source also said that Noriega is not an organic member of the NBI. Noriega, as it turned out, is a cop who is on AWOL.

I checked with a friend who owns a club in Pasay and confirmed that there is indeed a group who goes around introducing themselves as NBI agents mulcting money from club operators.

However, these nightclub owners are scared to report it to the NBI office for fear of reprisal from the said group who operates at night.

Unless Director Rojas could assure them that this group would land in jail or get axed from the bureau, the club operators prefer to just keep their mouths shut for their own safety and for the good of their businesses.

However, I am sure that Rojas has nothing to do with the extortion activity of some of his men at AFAD.

I heard the man is clean just like his big boss in Malacañang. But it would be wise if he goes after these rogue agents so as to keep his name and the image of the bureau clean.

What are you waiting for chief?
