FIL-AM, PARTNER WIN SWISS INDOORS DOUBLES

FILIPINO-AMERICAN Treat Conrad Huey and British partner Dominic Inglot bucked a second-set lapse to turn back Austrians Julian Knowle and Oliver Marach, 6-3, 3-6, 10-4, and ruled the 2013 Swiss Indoors tennis championships held in Basel, Switzerland.

“It is such a great feeling to have won a title again, after not having won one this year. We left it late, but better late than never. We worked on a few things during the summer and I think it is paying off in the fall, winter,” said Inglot on the official website of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour.

It was Huey and Inglot’s first title this year after settling for runner-up honors in the Winston-Salem tournament in North Carolina, US, and Dusseldorf tournament in Germany.

Huey and Inglot pocketed the 102,780-Euro champion’s purse and 500 ranking points while Knowle and Marach settled for 46,370 Euros and 300 points.

“It feels amazing. We really enjoy this tournament, but we came out knowing we had to defend a final. It can put pressure on you. I was not hitting the ball that great, but Treat has been pushing me hard,” added Inglot.

Huey and Inglot ousted Michael Llondra and Nicolas Mahut of France in the semifinals, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2); Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan and Horacio Zeballos of Argentina in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 7-6 (5); and No. 2 Aisam Qureshi of Pakistan and JeanJulien Rojer of the Netherlands in the first-round, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8.

“We got a good win in the first round against Qureshi and Rojer and I think that set us nicely for this tournament,” said Inglot.

Huey and Inglot will be seeing action next in the 2013 BNP Paribas Masters in Paris, France.

“We are off to Paris tonight on the train and we’ll hopefully have a good week there,” said Huey.

They will face Italians Fabio Fognini and Andreas Seppi in the first round.
