THE Diliman Preparatory School (DPS) students made huge waves in the recently-concluded 2015 Palarong Pambansa as they helped powerhouse National Capital Region retained the overall title by winning five golds, two silvers and three bronzes in taek won do and swimming.

Raymundo Alombro 3rd bagged the gold medal in the secondary boys’ finweight ( 45 kilograms) after beating Ivan Murray Soliman of Cordillera Administrative Region in the championship round of the tae kwon do competition.

Rhianna Mae Navarra contributed one bronze in the secondary girls’ light middleweight division.

“Our medal haul is truly admirable Our students excel not only in academics but in sports as well. Character is built on strong foundation and it clearly shows why DPS excels. We start them very young in the scientific correct training methods through competent, passionate and dedicated long-range thinking coaches like Susan Papa (swimming) as well as Rensy Bajar and Nap Dagdagan,” said DPS President Nikki Coseteng, a former senator.

Philippine Swimming League standout Nigel Anthony Romey made his presence felt in the boys’ elementary swimming competition. He helped the NCR team in winning the gold medal in the 4x400-meter freestyle relay with a time of 4:16.93.

Romey was also part of the team that wound up second in the boys’ elementary 4x200m freestyle relay.

The other medalists were Portia Kate Doragos (secondary girls’ 200m and 100m breaststroke golds, and 4x100m medley relay silver) and Sam Andrei Doragos ( elementary girls’ 4x100m medley relay gold, and 50m and 100m breaststroke bronzes).

“While other universities prohibit their student athletes from participating in Universiade, we at DPS are inviting them to enrol now and study and train here at DPS in grade school and high school so they could qualify to go to Taiwan Universiade in 2017 and Brazil Universiade in 2019. All outstanding athletes in Diliman College will be sent to all Universiade Games,” stressed Coseteng.
