Cebu lawmaker takes leave from UNA

- REINA TOLENTINO

VICE President Jejomar Binay’s reelectionist Cebu third district Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia has taken a leave of absence from the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

Garcia reportedly took a leave of absence in order to support the presidential bid of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

“Cong. Gwen called me two days ago and explained that it her because she was the only one in the Garcia family that was not for Duterte and at the same time she is the founder of One Cebu. So we agreed that she will remain a member of UNA but she will take a leave of absence,” UNA President and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco said.

“I fully understand the pressure that she is going through. I told her that I wish her, Manong Pabling, Winston and the whole One Cebu slate all the luck. I hope they win so that they can uplift the lives of the Cebuanos. There might have been political differences, but the welfare of the poor should remain

One Cebu, which is led by gubernatorial bet Winston Garcia, signed a unity pact with UNA in February. However, the local party broke its alliance with UNA last month and later announced that it was supporting Duterte’s candidacy.
