ARMY OVERRUNS REBEL CAMP IN SAMAR

TACLOBAN CITY: Philippine Army’s 20th Infantry Battalion commander, Lt. Col. Hilarion Palma, the New People’s Army (NPA) in Northern Samar suffered a big blow after its camp was overran by troopers recently. Recovered from a rebel camp in Catoto-ogan village, Las Navas were 10 bunkers and four observatio­n posts, an improvised explosive device, five blasting caps, battery, 12 empty shells of AK47 rifle, 20 empty shells of M16 rifle, personal belongings and foodstuff. Soldiers uncovered the lair after they caught some rebels planting landmines along the village roadside. The NPA settlement was seized by 81st Reconnaiss­ance Company under the supervisio­n of 20th IB led by 2nd Lt. Jojo Consorte.

GANG LEADER NABBED IN DAVAO SUR

A FIFTY-NINE year old leader of a criminal gang operating in Davao Del Sur was arrested on Sunday by operatives of the PNP Criminal Investigat­ion and Detection Group (CIDG) during a manhunt in a remote village. Arrested was identified as Jaime Sambilad, leader of Sambilad Group operating in Kiblawan town. Joint operatives of the CIDG Davao and other police units swooped down on Sambilad’s hideout in Barangay Ihan in Kiblawan town and seized from him one improvised 12 gauge shot gun, two improvised 5.56 mm pistols, a caliber .45 pistol, assorted ammunition­s, several magazines, holster and a hand grenade.
