S&P sees PH as ‘a bright spot’

DEBT watcher Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services (S&P) raised its growth forecast for the Philippine­s for this year and next, stressing that the economy will continue to be a bright spot in Southeast Asia amid risks mostly centered on China.

In a report released on Tuesday, S&P said Philippine gross domestic product (GDP) in 2016 could expand to 6 percent before accelerati­ng to 6.3 percent in 2017.

The credit rater’s previous projection­s were 5.7- percent and 5.9- percent growth for 2016 and the following year, respective­ly.
