Calabarzon bet breaks javelin throw record

CALABARZON Region’s Jerick Mendoza made his presence felt by smashing the boys’ elementary javelin throw event in the 2016 Palarong Pambansa being held at the Albay Tourism Sports Complex in Legazpi City, Albay.

Mendoza registered 57.50 meters to surpass the 51.98-meter 18-year-old mark of Jonah Reyes.

Jan Mervin Francisco completed a 1-2 finish for Calabarzon by submitting 54.15m while Mervin Lacson of Region 5 bagged the bronze with 51.92m.

In boys’ elementary long jump, John Dave Daras of Western Visayas Region took the top honor after scoring 5.60m, beating Region 7’s Rick Angelo Sotto (5.56m) and Region 8’s Lenrad Avery Tabada (5.47m), who settled for silver and bronze, respective­ly.

Sotto, however, bounced back in the triple jump event as he nailed 12.20m to claim the gold medal.

Western Visayas’ Jover Tejada pocketed the silver with 11.99m while Cordillera­s Autonomous Region’s Armando Cabanilla got the bronze with 11.68m.

The other gold medalists were Aglyn Cabilian of Western Visayas (girls’ elementary long jump) and Daniella Camonoga of Rergion 5 (girls’ elementary shot put).
