CHILD DIES IN PARAÑAQUE FIRE

A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy died, while his mother and his three-month-old sister were in critical condition when a night fire hit an apartment building in Parañaque City on Tuesday. Onyx Garcia, 7, was declared dead on arrival at the Ospital ng Parañaque. His sister Chloe was treated with burns on her face, while their mother Cindy, 33, was brought to the San Juan de Dios Hospital and remains under medical observatio­n from suffocatio­n and burns. The fire broke out at the building’s ground floor in Tamaraw Court Street, Barangay Tambo and was caused by faulty electrical wiring, said arson investigat­or Fire Officer 3 Giovanni Cordez of Parañaque City’s Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). The victims were sleeping on the second floor of the apartment. Cordez said at least P100,000 worth of properties were damaged.

ILOCOS POLICE CHIEFS MEET FOR ‘SAFE 2016’

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, San Fernando City, La Union: Chief Supt. Ericson Velasquez convened on Wednesday a summit for all chiefs of police (COPs) in the region to ensure the conduct of secure and fair elections (SAFE) on May 9, 2016. Senior Supt. Reynaldo Biay, PRO1’s deputy regional director for operations, said the COPs also presented the threat assessment, contingenc­y and deployment plans in their respective area of responsibi­lities (AORs), including the mobilizati­on of force multiplier­s; as well as security preparatio­ns on the transport, delivery and retrieval of VCM ( Vote Counting Machine) and other election parapherna­lia. Velasquez directed the COPs to maintain high level of police presence and ensure close supervisio­n within their AOR. To date, no area has been considered hot spot in the region but some towns are under tight watch. Ilocos region is composed of La Union, Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.
