PLANE FROM BATANES MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING AT NAIA

A commercial aircraft made an emergency landing at the Ninoy Aquino Internatio­nal Airport (NAIA) after one of its nose wheel landing gears was detached shortly after it took off from Basco airport in Batanes on Wednesday. No one was hurt when Magnum Skyjet Flight MSJ817 carrying 44 passengers and four crew landed safely at NAIA’s runway 13/31. Manila Internatio­nal Airport Authority authoritie­s said Basco Flight Safety Standard (FSS) informed MSJ817 pilot identified as Captain E. Tamayo and co-pilot First Officer J. Jatico that they recovered the nose wheel landing gear at Basco airport’s runway when the plane left there at 8:16 am. An aviation source said the pilot decided to proceed to NAIA because the country’s premier airport has complete and modern equipment for emergency situations. The plane, a BAE 146, was immediatel­y towed by airport’s emergency services after landing and brought to Terminal 4 for inspection of the damage.

QC ENFORCES CCTV ORDINANCE TO DETER CRIMES

QUEZON CITY will strictly enforce an ordinance requiring business establishm­ents to install closed- circuit television (CCTV) camera systems to deter crimes. QC Business Permit and Licensing Office head Garry Domingo said crimes can be prevented when CCTV systems in business establishm­ents are in place to help authoritie­s detect criminal activity, as well as allow establishm­ent owners to oversee and closely monitor their respective establishm­ents. He pointed out that criminals who fear easy identifica­tion and detection will think twice before committing crimes in areas equipped with CCTV. Under the ordinance, surveillan­ce cameras should have at least one dedicated channel per camera in operation, a 640x480 pixel resolution recording level, a recording speed of 15 frames per second, a time- stamping feature and sufficient memory to retain data for at least 30 days. SPEEDING MOTORCYCLE KILLS HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICER

COTABATO CITY: A senior police officer ( SPO) assigned with the Highway Patrol Group died while his colleague was injured when a wayward motorcycle hit them while they were investigat­ing an accident in Midsayap town in North Cotabato on Monday night. The Midsayap police chief, Senior Insp. Reylan Mamon, identified the victim as SPO1 Aldren Janoras and his wounded companion as PO3 Jun Alestre. The two were investigat­ing a traffic accident along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion 8 at 8 p. m., when the wayward motorcycle, driven by Kish Cabalinan of Barangay Balike, Midsayap, hit them. Janoras’ head hit the concrete road pavement and sustained serious injuries. He died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Mamon said Cabalinan was under the influence of liquor while driving the motorbike. Cabalinan is detained at Midsayap municipal jail as charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injuries were filed against him.

CAGAYAN COURT EMPLOYEES GUNNED DOWN

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya: A legal researcher and a utility worker in Aparri town's regional trial courts were gunned down while on the way to the office by motorcycle-riding men on Wednesday in Allacapan town, Cagayan province. Allacapan police identified the fatalities as Joseph Allan Magoddato Ragasa of Centro Abulug town, legal researcher at the Regional Trial Court Branch 9 in Aparri; and Francis Guillermo Ugalino of Cabulluan West, Ballestero­s town, a utility worker at the Municipal Trial Court Branch 1. The victims were riding a car on their way to Aparri town to report for work when the suspects fired at them in front of Matucal Elementary School in Allacapan.
