Benilde beats Letran in NCAA table tennis

COLLEGE of St. Benilde stunned Colegio de San Juan de Letran via a 3-1 decision in the National Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n (NCAA) Season 92 men’s table tennis tournament at the Letran Gym on Wednesday.

Benilde’s Ryan Jacolo and Erknight Benoya defeated Jehtro Gapas, 11- 9, 11- 9, 12- 10, and William Mañago, 11- 9, 11- 9, 5- 11, 11- 6, in their respective singles matches.

Letran stayed alive after John Gonzales and Benjecer Lim survived Koby Cabrido and Yuta Tortosa, 11-7, 6-11, 6-11, 11-8, 9-11, in the doubles match.

But Jacolo towed the Blazers to the victory following his 11-6, 14-16, 11-6, 11-8 win over Mañago in the reverse singles.

In the women’s division, San Beda College Red Lionesses swept third seed Arellano University Lady Chiefs, 3- 0.

Red Lioness Lyr Leyva easily dispatched Christine Rojas in straight sets, 11-3, 11-5, 11-6, while reigning Most Valu the second singles, 11-4, 11-7, 11-6.

Angel Sanchez and Abhie Nuevo completed San Beda’s impressive showing with a 9-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-8 win over Lady Chiefs’ Rizzie de Leon and Jediael Bautista,
