Bulldogs blast UP in UAAP badminton

DEFENDING men's champion National University ( NU) bested University of the Philippine­s ( UP), 4- 1, in a duel of unbeaten teams on Wednesday to move closer to claiming the outright berth in the University Athletic Associatio­n of the Philippine­s ( UAAP) Season 79 badminton championsh­ip round.

The Bulldogs, having notched 24 consecutiv­e ties since 2014, improved their record to 6-0.

NU shoots for a spot in the finals when it battles Far Eastern University ( FEU) in the final day of eliminatio­ns at 9 a. m. on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.

Fighting Maroons, who have already assured of a slot in the Final Four, after winning five straight contests.

Ateneo de Manila University, meanwhile, overpowere­d Adamson, 5- 0, to inch closer to bagging one of two remaining win in six. The Blue Eagles gun for the Final Four berth against University of Santo Tomas also on Saturday. In other ties, last season's runner-up De La Salle downed University of the East, 4- 1, while the Growling Tigers nipped the Tamaraws, 3- 2, to keep their semis hopes alive.

The Green Archers and UST remained tied in fourth place with a 3-3 cards.

FEU is on the brink of eliminatio­n with its fourth loss in six ties and will face the Bulldogs on Saturday.

The Red Warriors and the Falcons are already out of contention with 1-5 and 0-6 slates, respective­ly.
