PH assured of 3 bronzes in ABG
THE Philippines is assured of three more bronze medals in the 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG) with Clyde Joy Baria, Dines Dumaan and Princesslyn Enopia set to compete in the semifinal round in pencak silat.
Baria won her quarterfinal match against Kaewrudee Kamtakrapoom of Thailand, 4-1, in the women’s Tanding (55kg.-60kg.) division on Thursday at the Bien Dong Park in Da Nang City, Vietnam.
Dumaan will be up against Vietnamese Nguyen Thanh Tri in the men’s Tanding ( 45kg.50kg.) division, while Enopia will meet Vietnamese Nguyen Thi Kim in the women’s Tanding ( 45kg.- 50kg.) division.
Dumaan and Enopia both had a bye in the quarterfinal round.
In the men’s Tanding (80kg.-85kg.), Juanillio Ballesta II absorbed a 0-5 defeat from Vietnamese Si le Kien in the quarterfinal, while Mutmainna Asmad also lost her quarterfinal match against Olathay Sounthavong of Laos, 1-4.
The Philippines was also eliminated in the women’s 3x3 basketball event after the team of Chovi Borja, Camilla Denise Escoto, Maria Cecilia Junsay and Sarah Michelle Mercado lost to Taipei’s squad composed of Huang Jou-Chen, Lo Pin, Chen Wei-An and Tai I-Ting , 6-21, in the quarterfinal round.
In volleyball, the team of Roxanne Gorre and Regine Anne Arocha lost to Japan’s Futami Azuka and Reika Murakami, 0- 2 ( 13- 21, 5- 21) in the preliminary round.
