LTO FILES CASES VS FIXERS IN NCR, BICOL

THE Land Transporta­tion Office filed estafa cases against alleged fixers in the National Capital Region (NCR or Metro Manila) and the Bicol Region on Tuesday. Regional Director Clarence Guinto said the suspects allegedly collected money from the complaints for speedy release of documents for impounded vehicles, driver’s license applicatio­n and redemption. Facing charges in the NCR are Rhoda Antonio, who received P20,000; Eleanor Manalili, who asked P2,300 for renewal of driver’s license; and Dexter Laggui, who got P900 to redeem a driver’s license. In Bicol, Regional Director Noreen San Luis-Lutey and Sorsogon police arrested Cherry Larosa Lalos for issuing pre-signed medical certificat­es to license applicants.

2 MORE DAVAO BOMBING SUSPECTS FALL

THE Criminal Investigat­ion and Detection Group (CIDG) on Thursday said two more suspects in the bombing of a night market in Davao City on September 2, 2016 have been arrested. Senior Supt. Edilberto Leonardo, chief of CIDG-Davao Region, said Zack Haron Lopez, alias ‘Herwin Madrona’ and Jessy Vincent Quinto Original were nabbed on Tuesday along San Pedro Street in Davao City based on warrants of arrest for terrorism issued by Judge Melinda Alconel Dayanghira­ng of the Regional Trial Court Branch 54. The latest arrests bring to seven the number of suspects who have been apprehende­d. Members of the Maute Group were tagged by authoritie­s as behind the bombing that killed more than a dozen people and wounded scores of others in the night market. Three more suspects are being hunted.

ATTENDANT WOUNDED IN PIKIT GAS STATION BLAST

SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindana­o: A gasoline attendant was wounded after unidentifi­ed suspects lobbed a grenade at a gasoline station in Pikit, North Cotabato on Thursday. Supt. Emmanuel Peralta, North Cotabato police provincial director. said the blast slightly wounded Jay Salac, 34, of Barangay Poblacion, Pikit. Supt. Romeo Galgo, Police Regional Office 12 spokesman, said Pikit bomb experts found that the explosive was a fragmentat­ion grenade. He added that the bomb exploded about five meters from the pumps of Shell gas station but did not trigger fire. Police are reviewing the gas station’s CCTV footage that captured the surroundin­gs prior to the blast. No one has claimed responsibi­lity for the attack.
