Ateneo forces 1-1 draw vs GAU in PFFWL

- JEREMIAH M. SEVILLA

ATENEO de Manila University forced a 1- 1 draw with heavyweight Green Archers United ( GAU) FC in the Philippine Football Federation Women’s League ( PFFWL) on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.

Kathleen Camille Rodriguez netted the equalizer early in the second half as the Lady Eagles shared the spoils with GAU to firm up their hold of the fifth spot with 10 points.

“We’re happy with our players’ performance because we met our objectives in the game,” said Ateneo head coach Jaypee Merida.

With its first deadlock in eight matches, second place GAU only managed to hike its total to 16 points as it failed to inch closer to league-leader De La Salle University, which toted a total of 21 points.

“Our movement as a team was slightly off today and our distance was far when we’re defending. Those things are what we need to adjust,” rued GAU coach Eleonor Dillera.

Alisha del Campo continued on leading the Alabang- based lady booters as she scored the opening goal off a rebound in the 18th minute.

Ateneo’s Bianca Almeda dished an excellent forward pass to Rodriguez, who faked goalkeeper Natasha Lacson then easily tapped in the ball to even up the scoreboard in the 51st.

Del Campo squandered wide- open chances down the wire, which could have made a favorable result for GAU.

Meanwhile, Hazel Lustan notched a brace in the second half as University of Sto. Tomas returned to its winning ways with a 4- 1 ripping of OutKast FC.

The Tigresses snapped their two-game losing skid as they tallied their third win in seven games and lunged to the sixth place with nine points.

“We’re done with the survival stage ( referring to their last game). This time, we wanted to win again,” said UST coach Aging Rubio.

OutKast stayed on the third spot with 13 points on a 4- 1- 2 card.
