Task force all set to rebuild Marawi

A TASK force created by President Rodrigo Duterte to rehabilitate, reconstruct and rebuild the besieged Marawi City is now in its postassessment phase with concerned agencies and local government units (LGUs) and already organizing the next step after the war, De said on Monday.

According to Lorenzana, overall head of Task Force Bangon Marawi, Cesar Yano, overall ground coordinator, is in Marawi City to confer with other government agencies and LGUs in the reconstruction phase.

“The residents will be staying [in the temporary shelters] while we are repairing the central business district and will look into the possibility of repairing their houses and if that’s not [possible], we will be building new houses for them,” Lorenzana said.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines earlier deployed an engineering battalion to start the rebuilding phase of the war-torn city with the help of other concerned agencies including the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Education and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

According to Lorenzana, the DPWH will repair damaged roads once Marawi is cleared of Maute Group terrorists.
