Streaking Lyceum Pirates to sustain unbeaten run

- BY JEREMIAH M. SEVILLA

LYCEUM of the Philippines University seeks to pull away farther from its rivals when it faces College of St. Benilde at the resumption of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 93 basketball tournament today at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan City.

The match set at 12 noon, the Pirates and the Blazers figure in the first seniors’ game since after two straight playdates were sus- pended last week because of rough weather.

Lyceum, which is currently holding a perfect 4-0 win-loss card, looks to extend its best start and break its longest winning streak established in 2013.

The Topex Robinson-mentored team notched its fourth win with a 99-65 rout of Arellano University six days ago.

CJ Perez fired a game-high 16 points in that big win and three other Pirates turned in double figures while pesky twins Jaycee and Jayvee Marcelino took turns in holding off Arellano’s main gunner Kent Salado.

St. Benilde, on the other hand, received a 76-52 beating from defending champion San Beda College in its previ- ous outing last July 18.

Clement Leutcheu emerged as the lone bright spot for the Blazers in that game as the Senegalese big man scored 10 points on top of five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Arellano (2-2) and Colegio de San Juan de Letran (1-3) eye to notch a bounce-back win when they clash at 2 p.m.

The Chiefs absorbed a huge 34-point setback from Lyceum while the Knights suffered a 74-81 defeat to rival San Beda.

In the final game at 4 p.m., San Sebastian College-Recoletos (1-2) battles University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (1-2).
