GINEBRA ROUTS KIA BEHIND BROWNLEE’S ALLAROUND GAME

JUSTIN BROWNLEE powered Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s 120-99 rout over the listless Kia for its back-to-back wins in the Philippine Basketball Associatio­n (PBA) Season 42 Governors Cup on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Brownlee displayed an all- around performanc­e of 26 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists while returning Gin Kings center Greg Slaughter finished with 18 points, five assists and two blocks.

“The nice thing about Justine (Brownlee) is he does things that just help the team and he’s not about himself. He does his job well by analyzing the game and he is very skill is his coaching ability,” said Gin Kings head coach Tim Cone.

“We displayed all of our weapons tonight. I’m so happy with the focus of our guys and sustaining it for the entire game,” added Cone.

Ginebra, which improved to 2-1 win-loss mark, dished out 39 assists, the most since TNT KaTropa tallied the same number in its 123-106 win over Sta. Lucia in the 2003 Rein- forced conference.

Veteran Mark Caguioa finished with 16 points, while LA Tenorio contribute­d 10 points. Scottie Thompson dished out 10 assists also for the Gin Kings, who came from an impressive 124- 108 victory over GlobalPort last Sunday.

Ginebra led from the start, erecting a 28-13 lead ballooned to 58-43 going to the break.

The Gin Kings opened the third period with an 11-2 run capped by Brownlee’s triple for a 69-45 lead with 9:17 left in that stage.

They led by as much as 34 points, 98-64, on Caguioa’s jumper and Picanto never recovered from that point.

Reden Celda led Kia with 21 points, while Glenn Khobuntin and import Markeith Cummings contribute­d 14 points apiece.

The Picanto dropped to 0-4.
