CARING for the physical wellbeing of the sick and ailing is the primary concern and goal of of health care as a professional career, especially nurses.

While there are many opportunities for nursing jobs in the Philippines, the desire to work abroad is quite attractive among a lot of local nurses who wish to acquire advanced knowledge and training that will provide them wider and international experience that could lead to a bigger income and a better future.

Australia is one of the foreign countries that offer good opportunities for licensed nursing graduates from the Philippines, but the lack of local experience and the required level of English language competence to take a licensure conversion program in the Land Down Under pose a serious and daunting challenge to the aspirations of these applicants.

These issues can now be resolved through an Australian paid nursing internship program that is being made available to eligible Filipino nurses through International Education Specialists (Inter-Ed).

Under the program, licensed Filipino nurses who have completed their studies during the past 18 months can apply for a one-year paid internship program in Australia, where they can work in health care centers attending to the needs of patients with disabilities or past retirement age. Many of these health care centers and patients are subsidized by the government.

As part of the internship program, nursing interns shall receive specialized training with the same Australian counterparts (AUDS 1822 per hour).

After completing a year of industry experience and with their considerably improved , they can apply for the conversion of their work status to an Australian state registered nurse through the regular conversion program.

Another attractive feature of the program is that the Australian government does not impose any kind of taxes on the salaries of interns, and all taxes collected during the year shall be returned to the interns at the end of the program.

Eligible nursing interns can travel to Australia using the new intern visa, while the entire process of selecting a health care center to work, documentation and visa processing can be done in four to six weeks.

Internship positions are currently available in all states in Australia, with Filipina nurses Kaye Enriquez from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Medical Center college of nursing and Sarah Jane Saguia from the OIivarez College in Paranaque City among the latest to admitted to internships in New South Wales.
