4 MANILA TAXPAYERS FACE RAPS

THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has filed separate criminal complaints before the Department of Justice against four delinquent taxpayers who cost the government multi-million pesos in revenue loss. Charged for violating the Tax Code were Maria Cheryl Corpus Lagat of 2404 Rizal Avenue and Blumentrit­t Street, Santa Cruz, Manila and Eduardo Socuaje Jr., proprietor of Gold East Trading on Regina Building, Binondo. Lagat has a total tax liability for 2010 amounting to more that P16 million, while Socuaje was found with over P27-million unpaid taxes and penalties, also for 2010. Also charged for violation of various provisions of the Tax Code were Hanwell Industrial Corp. Inc., in Santa Cruz, Manila, with its president Felix Chung Lopez and treasurer Maribeth Lopez and Jin Hung Bijou Art, Inc. in Tondo, and its president Anavette Guevarra. Hanwell, engaged in retail and wholesale of industrial products, was found with total tax liability of more than P4million while Jin Hung incurred over P9 million in unpaid taxes.

NPA SUB- LEADER CAPTURED IN COTABATO

SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindana­o: The Philippine Army and Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday arrested an alleged New People’s Army (NPA) sub-leader in Makilala, North Cotabato and seized guns and bomb-making materials. Colonel Roberto Angcan, commander of the 102nd Infantry Brigade, said the raid on the house of Ariel Rebuta by the Army’s 39th Infantry Battalion in Purok 3, Barangay Biangan yielded three M-16 Armalite rifles, electrical cords, ammonium nitrate use for bomb-making, seven mobile phones and 1,500 pieces M-16 rifle bullets. Rebuta, alias “Suring,” is detained at Makilala PNP detention cell and facing charges for illegal possession of firearms and explosives.

3 SOLDIERS DIE IN COMPOSTELA ROAD ACCIDENT

DAVAO CITY: Three members of 46th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army were killed in a road accident on Wednesday in Compostela Valley. Police identified the soldiers as Private First Class Renato Cabigas, PFC Reynan Viray and the motorcycle driver, Corporal Jerry Baris. Captain Rhyan Batchar, chief informatio­n office of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division said the soldiers were from Tagum City and heading to Mabini town when the single motorcycle they were riding collided with a truck at about 5:30 a.m. along the Davao City–Mati City National Highway in Barangay San Antonio. The truck, loaded with copra, was heading to Panabo City when the accident happened. Its driver immediatel­y surrendere­d.

2 NPA BOMB EXPERTS ARRESTED IN BUKIDNON

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Two suspected bomb experts of the New People’s Army (NPA) were captured after a brief firefight with the military in the outskirts of Kiburao, a remote village in the town of Quezon, Bukidnon. Capt. Joe Patrick Martinez, spokesman for the Army’s 4th Infantry Division, identified the suspects as Ruel Cololot, carrying an identifica­tion card claiming to be a member of the militant Anak Pawis party-list, and Ramil Cololot, a member of the NPA. The suspects were reportedly planning to sow terror in the area. Seized from them were a 57-RR, 24 pieces of improvised explosive devices, two .38 caliber revolvers, 10-meter safety fuse, 200 meters detonating cords, five blasting caps, switch boxes, three laptops, 51 rounds of cal. 30 ammunition, 10 pieces of antenna, firing wires, IED parapherna­lia and subversive documents.
