1920

• Washington “Wash” SyCip was born in Manila on June 30, 1921 to Albino and Helen SyCip

1930

• SyCip graduated valedictor­ian from Victorino Mapa High School (1936)

• He transferre­d to the University of Santo Tomas (UST) after spending a semester at the University of the Philippine­s-Diliman (UP)

UST College of Commerce in two and half years and graduated summa cum laude at the age of 18

• His mentor, Dean Stanley Prescott, asked him to teach at the university in his stead, while the former was on vacation

1940

• SyCip obtained University

• He returned to Manila after World War II and reunited with his family

SyCip & Co., which later became SGV & Co (1946)

1950

• SyCip and his family moved to South Forbes Park SyCip, Velayo, Jose & Co. merged with Henry Hunter Bayne & Co. (1953)

1960

• SGV & Co. opened a branch in the cities of Bacolod (1960), Iloilo (1964), and Iligan (1965)

• He was named “Outstandin­g Management - tion of the Philippine­s (1967)

• He establishe­d the Asian Institute of Management (1968)

1970

• SGV Group expanded pore and Malaysia (1970)
