A Magnitude 4.1 earthquake hit Catanduane­s on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Institute for Volcanolog­y and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake recorded at 11:14 a.m. was located 68 kilometers northwest of Pandan with a depth of 10 km. The origin of the quake was tectonic, Phivolcs said. Intensity 2 was felt in Legazpi City (Albay) while Intensity 3 was felt in Naga City (Camarines Sur). Phivolcs said no damages and aftershock­s were expected in the region.

DRUG USER KILLED IN NEIGHBOR’S WAKE

A DRUG user was killed while playing on a gambling table during the funeral wake of his neighbor in Caloocan City. Police identified the victim as Xernan de Guzman, 33, of 62 Martinez Extension, Barangay 28, who was brought by his father to Caloocan City Medical Center where he was declared dead. Xernan had a gunshot wound in the head. He was playing the card game at the wake on Martinez and Kapanalig streets when a lone gunman shot him at close range. The gunman fled in a motorcycle. The victim’s father admitted to the police that his son was involved in illegal drug activities.

SUSPECTED RAPIST HACKED BY INTENDED VICTIM’S FATHER

A CONSTRUCTI­ON worker who fell asleep while waiting for his landlord’s daughter whom he allegedly planned to rape was hacked in the arm and body by the victim’s father in Valenzuela City. Police said Paulo Estrada, 35, was found by responding (village) watchmen slumped bloodied at the second floor of his rented room in San Andres, Karuhatan Compound, and was brought to Valenzuela Medical Center for treatment of hack wounds in the arms and body. Valenzuela police deputy chief for operation Supt. Rey Medina said that earlier, Rose Ann Flor, of 85-A San Andres, Karuhatan, was about to enter her room after taking a bath when she heard someone snoring under her bed. When Rose Ann peeped under her bed, she saw Estrada who fell asleep while allegedly waiting for her, prompting her to seek the help of his 69-year- old father Anacleto Jr. Armed with a bolo, Anacleto rushed to his daughter’s room but he met his tenant who was armed with a knife on the hallway, prompting him to hack him in the arms and body. Police recovered the knife but not the bolo used by Anacleto.

TWO OF 6 LAGUNA JAIL ESCAPEES RECAPTURED

STA. CRUZ, Laguna: Two of the six inmates who bolted the Laguna Provincial Jail in Santa Cruz on October 29 were recaptured on The two were identified as Rhandel Valle, who is facing a murder case, and Rommel Macaraig, who is charged with car theft and illegal possession of explosives. Cavite Police provincial director and Senior Supt. Willy Segun said joint elements of the Cavite Provincial Intelligen­ce Team, Regional Intelligen­ce Unit, Provincial Intelligen­ce Board, Cavite Provincial Police and Imus Police, acting on a tip, conducted an operation at Barangay Pasong Buaya 1, Imus City, that resulted in the arrest of the escapees. A manhunt for the four other escapees is underway.
