Maynilad to improve Tagbiliran water services
MAYNILAD Water Services Inc. has struck a twinning partnership with the Tagbiliran City government in Bohol province on the enhancement of water operations there.
Under the partnership, Maynilad will share its technical expertise on water loss and water-pressure manage- ment, which, in turn, will help the local government improve the water operations of the Tagbilaran City Waterworks System (TCWS).
This entails assessing TCWS’ operations to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement, as well as conducting technical and customer care trainings for its workers.
Maynilad said the partnership will 10 villages in Tagbiliran who are being serviced by TCWS.
“Through partnerships [like] this one, we hope to be able to share the success of our non-revenue water management strategies in the West Zone with other water operators. We are glad to contribute to the progressive development of the province of Bohol,” Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito Fernandez said.
The United States for International Development (Usaid), through its Urban Resilience for Growth with Equity (Surge) project, is backing the water company’s latest initiative.
This project provides assistance to small cities in the Philippines to foster resilient economic growth and sustainable development.
Founded in 1961, Usaid is a US government agency responsible for administering civilian foreign aid.
Maynilad is the country’s largest private water concessionaire in terms of customer base, which have twinning partnerships with the local governments of Baliuag town, Bulacan province and Bayawan City, Negros Oriental province for their respective water operations.

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System commissioned Maynilad in 1997 to supply water in the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, made up of certain portions of the cities of Manila and Quezon; Makati City, South Super Highway; and Caloocan, Las Piñas, Malabon, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, and Valenzuela cities.
It also services Cavite City; Bacoor and Imus cities; and Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario municipalities in Cavite province.
