- BRENDA V. PIMENTEL

SHIPPING company Archipelago Philippine Ferries Corp. ( APFC), which owns and operates the FastCat roll- on/ roll- off ferries, has teamed up with Women in Maritime Philippines ( Wimaphil) to hold a company outreach program in Bulalacao town, Oriental Mindoro province from November 30 to December 3, 2017.

The four- day program aims to make a positive impact on the environment and the Bulalacao community with its scheduled coastal clean- up, seaweedplanting and farming talk, mural painting on the appreciation of marine life and livelihood, exposure to the production of local products, medical and dental missions, and island familiarization.

These six activities were designed to help give Bulalacao resi- dents a more sustainable life and targets eight of the United Nations’ (UN) 17 sustainable development goals: poverty reduction, quality education, good health and wellbeing, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, climate action, protection of marine life, and developing more sustainable communities.

Both APFC and Wimaphil advocate for the protection of the environment; the implemention port operations; and the promotion of health and wellness in the maritime sector.

They also advocate for cooperation, friendship and understanding among stakeholders by sharing knowledge and disseminating information, and promoting education, training and sea career opportunities in the industry.
