PH bowlers shine in Asian Intercity meet

THE Filipino keglers copped two gold, four silver and eight bronze medals in the 31st Asian Intercity Bowling Championship held at the Yancheng Bowling Center in Jiangsu, China.

Victor Emmanuel led the charge of the Philippine delegation as he topped the senior men’s singles to win the country’s first gold medal.

He scored 1,216 pinfalls on 179, 218, 236, 194, 188 and 201 to beat silver medalist Zhu Yongqui of China, who submitted 1,208 pinfalls ( 227, 203, 204, 211, 276 and 187) and bronze winner Filipino Dennis Ho, who had 1,199 pinfalls (235, 185, 193, 225, 213 and 148).

Ho then worked hand in hand with Johnson Cheng to win the gold medal in the senior men’s doubles following their combined 2,350-pinfall output.

Cheng got 1,228 (194, 190, 217, 206, 184 and 237) while Ho rolled 1,122 ( 175, 167, 203, 217, 197 and 163).

World Cup veteran Lara Posadas, on the other hand, lost to Peng Rui of China (214-268 in Game 1 and 235247 in Game 2) in the besto f - t h r e e championship round to settle for silver in the women’s masters.

The other Pinoy silver medal winners were James Dela Cruz in senior men’s allevents, Anna Marie Kiac in women’s all- events, and Angela Lao and Tess Aquino in the senior women’s doubles of the Asian Bowling Federation-sanctioned event.

Meanwhile, the bronze medals were from Kiac (women’s singles and women’s masters); Aquino (senior women’s allevents); Posadas (women’s allevents); Bernard Hernandez and James Dela Cruz (senior men’s doubles); Johnson Cheng (senior men’s masters); and Rodolfo Tan Jr. (men’s masters).

Overall, the Philippines finished second behind host China that earned five gold, two silver and one bronze medals. Hong Kong finished third with two silver medals and Macau fourth with two bronze medals.
