The Evolution of TV: From mechanical TV sets to LG’s OLED revolution

It was under this context that leading media figures met under the auspices of the United Nations to discuss the growing significan­ce of TV in an ever- changing world and how it might enhance their mutual cooperatio­n. This gathering resulted in the proclamati­on of World Television Day every November 21 to celebrate not so much the tool, but the philoso- phy that TV represents— communicat­ion and globalizat­ion in the contempora­ry world.

Since then, television technology has undergone three shifts – the popularity of digital TV, the introducti­on of widescreen and high definition formats, and place shifting. And with every shift, the purpose of TV has remained the same.

Heralds of doom predicted the death of television. However, recent developmen­ts show that anytime soon.

LG’s OLED TVs caught the attention of the design world, and the company received one prominent design award after another including the EISA Awards 2017 Best of Innovation Award for the Signature 77W7; TechRadar’s 2017 CES Awards Best TV for the Signature W7; Red Dot Award 2017 Best of the Best for the Signature W7; and the iF Design Award 2017 for the Signature W7, 4K E7 and 4K C7.
