Japan expands grass roots project in PH
THIRD Secretary Atsushi Kobayashi attended the Luzon Island Cluster Conference of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines ( LMP) to promote “The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project ( GGP).” Held on November 22 in Cebu City, the event was attended by more than 500 municipal mayors from Luzon.
Moreover, a promotion was also conducted by the Embassy of Japan (EOJ) during the Mindanao Island cluster Conference of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines on October 26 at Cebu City and was participated by more than 400 municipal mayors from Mindanao.
In his opening address, Kobayashi mentioned that EOJ has implemented more than 500 projects in the Philippines, which provided facilities and equipment for education, health, agriculture and capacity building under the GGP. He emphasized that the promotion is a chance for the participants to understand the GGP scheme as well as assurance of Japan’s continuous participation in promoting socio-economic assistance in the country.
After the presentation, participants were given the chance to make clarifications and ask questions about GGP in the booth installed at the venue. Many of them have expressed their interest in GGP and want to improve the condition of their communities through this scheme.
GGP was established in 1989 to assist NGOs and local public authorities in developing countries in responding to various development needs in a prompt and complete manner, even though on a comparatively scale.
