ABS-CBN TVplus sales hit 4M mark
BROADCAST network ABS-CBN Corp. said sales of its TVplus digital boxes had reached the 4 million mark since the product was launched in the market in February 2015.
Chinky Alcedo, head of ABSCBN Digital Terrestrial Television, announced at a media gathering on Wednesday night that the company has sold 4 million units of its digital terrestrial television ( DTT) set top boxes.
“Just this week we just hit 4 million already. We promised you early this year we will hit 4 million, we hit it earlier than Christmas. We’re also now in more areas, Visayas and Mindanao-- Iloilo, Cebu Bacolod and CDO ( Cagayan De Oro) and Davao ... the whole Metro Davao,” she said.
Alcedo told reporters the television network would continue its aggressive rollout of TVplus across the country.
With a plan to introduce a new DTT product, the company representative said they will make a pilot offering in Cebu and Davao in December.
She said they chose untapped locations for the pilot as they see “better opportunities in those areas.”
“[ T] hose are also areas where there are [ fewer] choices for Kapamilya because you know, in Mega Manila, everyone’s competing, the telcos have their own broadband services,” she said.
Alcedo also said they are looking to penetrate one or two areas around Luzon.
“For Mega Manila we’re at more than 40 percent [ penetration rate]. In the suburbs, we’re one out of three,” Alcedo said.
