Northwood to reopen, bids for national events

THE Northwood Club golf course, which closed for a renovation on October 3, 2016, is on pace to said. And once it does, the club the USGA and PGA of America in order to attract national tournament­s to the course that hosted the 1952 U.S. Open.

Also, the clubhouse was renovated, the golf shop was expanded and a caddie program will begin when the course reopens. Nicholson said the caddies will come from the junior ranks and be trained by a caddie master hired from the Philadelph­ia Cricket Club.

Davis, Barker team up to win Women’s Texas Pinehust

Joanna Davis of Georgetown and Marian Barker of Lubbock posted a 6-over 78 in the final round to win the Texas Golf Associatio­n’s Women’s Texas Pinehurst at Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville on Tuesday. Their 9-over 153 for 36 holes was two strokes better than Julie Robichaux and Diane Henry.

Houston’s Julie Hoopingarn­er and Sugar Land’s Maggie Har scorecard playoff over the team of Linda Sackett of Boerne and Tammy Trichell of Helotes. The two teams tied in regulation play with a 172 total.

Colonial’s Finsterwal­d wins Mercedes at Ewing Charity Classic

Colonial head pro Dow Finsterwal­d Jr. won the use of a 2018 Mercedes Benz CLA 250 for a year in a shootout of NTPGA pros sponsored by Ewing Automotive Group.

The shootout was conducted under the lights at Brook Hollow Golf Club followed the Ewing Charity Classic, an annual fundraiser for the NTPGA. Finsterwal­d set a shootout record by hitting his 7-iron to 2 feet 11 1/4 inches on the par-3 10th hole. Brett Beaty, head profession­al at Dallas National Golf Club, was second at 10 feet, 10 3/4 inches.

The tournament, which featured 22 teams consisting of three amateurs, a PGA Tour, Web.com Tour or LPGA Tour player and a PGA of America golf profession­al, raised $216,500 for the NTPGA Junior Golf Foundation.
