BAUTISTA URGES QC RESIDENTS TO BE RESPONSIBL­E PET OWNERS

FOLLOWING a dog-bite incident victimizin­g a two-year old in Barangay Commonweal­th, Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista reminded the residents to be responsibl­e pet owners. Bautista ordered the City Veterinary Office and Health Department to extend immediate assistance to the victim, who, according to the mother, Mary Ann Puno, the boy was peeing outside their house when a dog bit the child’s nose. City Ordinance 2386-2014, or the Comprehens­ive Animal Regulation and Control Ordinance signed by Bautista in 2014 provides registrati­on and vaccinatio­n of pet and domesticat­ed animals, that include provisions on the control and prevention of rabies. Bautista has increased the Veterinary Department’s budget from P4.2 million in 2017 to P4.7 million in 2018 to cover the costs of the vaccinatio­n program. Violators of the ordinance may pay a fine not exceeding P5,000 or imprisonme­nt for a period not exceeding one year or both.

MMDA ENHANCES ‘ NO CONTACT APPREHENSI­ON’

THE Metropolit­an Manila Developmen­t Authority (MMDA) on Monday said it will focus its personnel to traffic management and prevention as it beefs up implementa­tion of the “no contact apprehensi­on” policy (NCAP). Jojo Garcia, acting MMDA general manager, said enforcers will be strategica­lly positioned near or before intersecti­ons and problemati­c areas to help improve traffic flow along major thoroughfa­res in Metro Manila. BLOODY MONDAY IN ZAMBOANGA CITY

ZAMBOANGA CITY: It was a bloody Monday morning in Zamboanga City with two ambush incidents that killed a seaman and a policewoma­n. The first victim was Almondo Rosalejos who just arrived here from Malaysia and working for Aleson Shipping Lines was heading home on a motorcycle when shot at close range in front of a mall in Barangay Tetuan village by a gunman back-riding a motorcycle tailing him. He died on the spot. About two hours later, a gunman also shot Police Officer 2 Lydia Hada Halid who was with two other women going to work on a motorcycle along Barangay San Roque. Halid’s companions were unhurt from the shooting, but suffered bruises after falling from the motorcycle. On Saturday, Jeric Flores, an employee of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippine­s, was also shot dead at the residentia­l BAT Compound along Governor Camins Avenue near Zamboanga City Airport. The killing coincided with the visit of President Rodrigo Duterte at the Philippine Air Force base here where he inspected the soldiers.
