Team Carl Corpus wins 1st Blue Open

THE Sino-Filipino Friendship Day Golf Tournament will tee off on May 28 at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club (WWGCC) in Mandaluyon­g City.

The one- day charity tournament aims to raise funds for the developmen­t programs of The Junior Golfers League (TJGL) and the Philippine Sports Institute.

“I want to see the kids, the Jungolfers, that’s what I’m looking for — prospects who has the potential to be developed,” said tournament director Oliver Gan in a statement.

The junior golfers action starts at 6 a. m. with TJGL president Chona dela Paz, Junior Golf Federation of the Philippine­s corporate secretary Tiffany Copok, Filipino Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation (FCAAF) director and golf chairman Francis Dy and Gan leading the ceremonial tee off.

FCAAF members and guests, meanwhile, will tee off at 12 noon in the event sanctioned by World Amateur Golfers Championsh­ip.

WWGCC president JV Ejercito, PBA Party List representa­tive Jericho Nograles, FCAAF secretaryg­eneral Jose Sy, Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. president Domingo Yap, and FCAAF president Gosiaco will grace the ceremonial tee off.

“With the help of the FilipinoCh­inese businessme­n, we can do it. It’s really a big thank you to the federation, without them this won’t be possible,” said Gan.

The tournament is co-presented by FCAAF, FCCCII, and supported by the Philippine Airlines, Tanduay, Asia Brewery and Great Volume. TEAM Carl Corpus sizzled with a 65 net to dominate the 1st Blue Open held last May 22 at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyon­g City.

The one-handicappe­r Corpus carded a 66 gross to seal his victory at Wack Wack’s West Course layout.

Class A champion Pierre Ticson (1 Handicap) defeated runner-up Nathan Kawpeng ( 3 HCP) via lower handicap after both players posted a 66 net.

Ethan Wong snatched the Class B title with a 70 net built on an 86

- ond with a 70 net from an 88 gross.

In Class C, Eric Tensuan carded a 72 and won via countback against second placer Ed Domasig.

De Castro at 72. Organized by the Ateneo College Golf Team headed by skipper Marc Salandanan and deputies Andrea Dy Buncio and Adrian Romero, the event aims to raise funds for the team’s future projects.

The tournament was backed by Veterans Bank, First Metro Securities Brokerage Corporatio­n, Lexus, Alphatec, Bbi (Breakdown Basketball Invitation­als), Luisita Golf and Country Club, Yusen Logistics, Sulit.Ph, Manila Catering and Power Mac Center.
